Controlling Iteration in Product Development Processes

نویسنده

چکیده

Iteration is a dominant though unwelcome feature of product development. Controlling this iteration can reduce the time needed to complete product development projects. Management must decide how long each project should spend in a design stage before it undergoes a design review (or test). This paper presents a model of iteration that can be used to make this decision. The paper considers the singleproject case and two scenarios in which multiple projects require a common reviewer. These results give some insight into how managers should control iteration to improve their product development processes.

A value analysis of new product development factors.in a Developed and Developing Country (Case Study)

New product development (NPD) is described in the literature as the transformation of a market opportunity into a product available for sale. In the automotive industry, within the context of ISO/TS16949:2002 (the automotive quality management system international standard),  these related to the product realization process (PRP) which consists of Three main phases such as planning, Implem...

Supplier integration—Controlling of co-development processes

Co-development processes are an instrument used in several industries to gain a competitive advantage and to reduce development costs. An overview of the literature is given with the identification of a gap in current literature: the patterns of supplier participation in new product development. The main goal of this article is to seek possible ways of controlling the supplier integration proce...

Managing Iterations in Product Design and Development

The inherent iterative nature of product design and development poses significant challenge to reduce the product design and development time (PD). In order to shorten the time to market, organizations have adopted concurrent development where multiple specialized tasks and design activities are carried out in parallel. Iterative nature of work coupled with the overlap of activities can result ...

RECENT RESEARCH ON QbD APPROACH IN FORMULATION DEVELOPMENT - A REVIEW

QbD is a systemic approach to pharmaceutical development. It means designing and developing formulations and manufacturing processes to ensure predefined product quality. Some of the QbD elements include defining a target product quality profile, designing product and manufacturing processes, identifying critical quality attributes, process parameters, and sources of variability and controlling...

Modelling Iteration in Engineering Design

This paper examines design iteration and its modelling in the simulation of New Product Development (NPD) processes. A framework comprising six perspectives of iteration is proposed and it is argued that the importance of each perspective depends upon domain-specific factors. Key challenges of modelling iteration in process simulation frameworks such as the Design Structure Matrix are discussed...
